Come on England...

England’s lions could only manage a draw against the USA on Saturday after an astonishing blunder by goalkeeper Robert Green.

Captain Marvel Steven Gerrard scored after just four minutes to set up the dream start to the World Cup campaign for Fabio Capello's men.

But Green's howler let the Americans back into the match before half-time and cost England the three points.

There appeared to be little danger when Clint Dempsey drilled in a low 25-yard shot which Green got his hands behind.

But the ball slipped from his grasp and rolled agonisingly over the line.

As the minutes ticked away in the second half, the England players threw themselves at the US goal. Rooney was key to most of the team's build-up play and almost scored with a stretched header on 70 minutes.

Later, he put Shaun Wright-Phillips through but the winger failed to beat a busy Tim Howard in the USA goal. Following the game, skipper Gerrard said: "It was a bit of a shock when they came back, but I thought we finished the game strongly."

About the goal he added: "People have been talking about the ball and the ball is tricky. Rob is a man and I am sure he will go from strength to strength."

Manager Capello was still upbeat after the match. He admitted Green made a blunder but said: "He played well in the second half." And he added: "The next game will be better."

Despite the result, England are still favourites to top their group and fans should remember that when England won the World Cup in 1966 they drew their first game - 0-0 with Uruguay.

As for vuvuzelas …….. BAN THEM!!!!
