Rebuild of Atherstone fruit and vegetable warehouse
9th March 2009Robinson Low Francis, property and construction consultant has been appointed as quantity surveyor on the rebuild of Atherstone Warehouse, near Stratford-upon-Avon.
The warehouse is owned by Wealmoor Atherstone Limited, one of the UK's largest importers and distributers of fruit and vegetables. It is believed to have been hit by an arson attack in November 2007 in which four firemen were tragically killed.
The warehouse is built on an old air field site, occupying an area of approximately 9,000m2. The building is comprised of a 1930's air craft hanger and a more modern warehouse, both of which were damaged by the fire.
Rebuilding began in January this year and is due for completion in September 2009. The project is valued in excess of £10million.
Mick Rogers, Project Manager, Wealmoor Atherstone Ltd commented “As our sympathies go to the relatives and friends affected by the tragic accident we hope to rebuild the once thriving warehouse and restore its former strategic presence of location. To achieve this we have appointed a strong quantity surveying team in Robinson Low Francis, reputable for their efficiency and expertise in the industry”
