Sustainability
Paul Crossley, our Sustainability Manager, has been with RLF for two and half years. Paul’s remit covers two distinct aspects; first to raise awareness of sustainability within Robinson Low Francis, and second to advise our clients and ensure the projects we are involved with are as sustainable as possible.Over the last year Paul has been involved in a number of activities:
- Delivering BREEAM Education workshop/training for the University of Birmingham and other clients
- Providing a ‘sustainability critique’ on development plans for a new live/work study campus near Brighton
- Providing bespoke advice to clients on Site Waste Management Plans
- Advising our social housing clients on the Code for Sustainable Homes
- Providing background information and advice for clients affected by the Carbon Reduction Commitment
- Delivering staff awareness training on our new ISO 14001 Certification, and also guiding clients through the ISO accreditation process
- Assessing our carbon footprint at a strategic level and defining the process for reducing it
- Writing IMPACT, our monthly sustainability newsletter
Our clients face many issues when addressing both the sustainability of their projects and also strategic internal policy. Environmental protection and sustainability-driven legislation exerts an ever-increasing pressure: it is crucial therefore that organisations have a thorough understanding of what legislation they need to comply with and how this will affect their business operations and the design and construction process. We are working with our clients to establish what legislation will affect them, and also to provide robust cost appraisals which address not just the capital costs of meeting basic legislatory requirements, but also the longer term financial impacts on project lifecycles.
If you would like further information on any of the above issues, please get in touch with Paul Crossley at paul.crossley@rlf.co.uk or tel +44 (0)20 7566 8400
