House prices soar in England and Wales

It was bound to happen at some point, but this month, the average asking price of a home in England and Wales has broken the £300,000 barrier for the first time.

According to data from Rightmove, in the year to March 2016, the average asking price has risen by 7.6%, to a high of £303,190. This means that house prices have increased by 50% in a decade - outpacing the 22% average wage growth over the same period.
