Malling Brooks Unit F, Lewes
Client Name: Santon North Street Limited
Role: Project Manager
Construction work has begun at RLF Brighton’s Malling Brooks project to create 75,000 ft² of purpose built employment space for light industrial businesses in Lewes.
Enabling works began to help prepare the ground for new buildings, which will start to go up at the end of the year.
Unit F is the first of seven industrial units to be constructed on the Malling Brooks Site. The warehouse includes manufacturing, packaging and laboratory areas which was developed for John Gosnell and Son, one of the oldest family businesses in Lewes.
The end-user was very specific in their requirements for a high-quality production and packaging facility incorporating Cat 3 Laboratories for their bespoke pharmaceutical and food packaging. In order to reduce operational costs, the unit has one of the largest solar power and solar thermal installations in Lewes nestling on their sedum roof to reduce groundwater as it is constructed in a flood zone.
As it was a brownfield site, RLF were required to work directly with all the utilities suppliers and bring new utilities into the site. This included providing for a new UKPN sub-station.
